The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that Helen's story is the true heart of this novel, the key to unlocking the mysteries that Nicoletta is so desperate to uncover. And yet, despite my growing excitement, I'm also left with a sense of trepidation. Will Among the Ruins prove to be a genuine game-changer, a novel that challenges the status quo and pushes the boundaries of the genre? Or will it succumb to the same tired tropes and conventions that have come to define the mystery genre? Only time will tell, but for now, I'm willing to take the risk. Literally. But as I sit here, pondering the possibilities, I'm reminded of the countless other novels that have tackled similar themes with varying degrees of success. The Silent Companions, The Witch Elm, The Last Mrs. Parrish — all of these novels have explored the darker side of human nature, the secrets that we keep, and the lies that we tell. And so, the question remains: what sets Among the Ruins apart from the rest?
